Wide-plank hardwood floor boards

Hardwood

Solid and engineered, and an honest answer about which one your slab will take.

What it is

Solid hardwood is one piece of wood all the way through, so it can be sanded and refinished several times over its life. Engineered hardwood is a real wood wear layer over a dimensionally stable core, which is what lets it go over concrete. In most of Southern California that concrete is the deciding factor, not taste.

Where it works

01

Living areas, bedrooms, and hallways

02

Offices and lobbies that want a warmer floor than vinyl

03

Over concrete, engineered only, and only after a moisture reading

04

Not in bathrooms, laundry rooms, or below-grade slabs

What we check first

01

Slab moisture, every time, before we quote

02

Flatness, since wood telegraphs a dip faster than most materials

03

Whether the room needs nail-down, glue-down, or floating

04

Height at thresholds and appliance clearances

Finish and refinishing

Prefinished boards arrive with the finish cured on and go down faster with less dust. Site finished gets sanded flat after install, which hides seams better and lets us match an existing floor. We do both, and we do refinishing on floors we didn’t install.
